Glenn: Two brothers, Jose and Lazaro Garcia have created the first in a “collection” of restaurants that will use some of the concepts the pair developed as the minds behind the Pollo Tropical restaurants.
Jorge: Their idea is simple: clean, beautifully designed restaurants, classic Cuban dishes, nicely sized portions, and low prices.
Raúl: The restaurant is beautiful!
Jorge: The menu is not overly large, but here you will find all of the core classics of Cuban cuisine.
Raúl: We’re talking croquetas, empanadas, and papa rellenas for appetizers.
Glenn: A Cuban version of fajitas without the tortillas makes for an interesting twist. You can have either steak or chicken marinated in mojo and served with sautéed onions and green peppers.
Jorge: Except for a few seafood dishes, most meals run just a little north or south of $10.00.
Glenn: The brothers have also converted three Sergio’s restaurants they own to the new Casavana concept. If they succeed, you’ll soon see the chain branching out to the rest of South Florida and beyond.
Raúl: Who knows? Maybe they’ll open one in Iowa!
