Three Guys From Miami

Glenn: There has been an explosion of churrascarías in Miami -- basically Argentine or Brazilian steakhouses that features several types of meat cooked over an open fire.

Jorge: Most of these places feature "all you can eat" service and for the most part have been upscale and expensive.

Glenn: It's nice to see some smaller churrascarías popping up on the landscape. The smaller places, though not cheap, tend to be more reasonably priced.

Raúl: At The Fork Churrascaría, they don’t sacrifice quality in the name of saving money.

Glenn: Most of the meats are completely unseasoned, gaining their distinct and succulent flavor from the open wood fire.

Jorge: Standouts include the picana a beef roast stuffed with ham and pimentos, churrasco de entrana made from the outside skirt, and a delicious New York sirloin.

Raúl: You can get the meat any way you like from rare to well done.

Glenn: They also have several cuts of pork including the tender loin and some tender baby back ribs.

Glenn: All of the beef here is prime. The owner, Leonardo Vila, knows he could make more money by cutting a few corners, but for Vila the key to long-term success is keeping the quality of the menu items high.

Jorge: Like most of the churrascarías, The Fork has a combination salad/appetizer bar. Although it is not as extensive as some, the appetizer items especially are very good.

Glenn: All of the appetizers are made on site, with one standout being a variety of stuffed cake rolls. Similar to a jelly roll, these treats feature a sweet cake rolled around a variety of fillings.

Raúl: The two fillings we enjoyed were a prosciutto with casero cheese and a black olive with blue cheese.

Jorge: The empanadas here are good, especially if you add some chimichurri and hot sauce at the table.

Glenn: Unlike most of the churrascarías, where waiters visit your table with various cuts of meat in hand, diners at The Fork must visit a large serving window.

Raúl: From the window you can order anything that catches your eye.

Jorge: Selections also usually include chicken, fish and a selection of sausages.

Raúl: If after stuffing yourself with meat you still think you can eat a dessert, be ready for several decadent homemade treats.

Glenn: The homemade ice cream, flan and chocolate cakes are standouts.

Jorge: Another favorite? The panqueques de dulce de leche (caramel filled crepes) a typical Argentine treat.

Jorge and his daughter Allison step up to the window for a serving from the grill.
A wide selection of meats on the grill makes for some difficult choices.
