Glenn Lindgren: Traditionally, you wouldn't find any elaborate preparations or exotic spices here -- just good fresh fish and seafood.

Jorge Castillo: Did we say simple? For years, the fish sandwich was served with chopped white onions and your choice of mayonnaise, tartar, or hot sauce.

Glenn Lindgren: However in the past few years, La Camaronera has "gone Hollywood" with an appearance on the Food Network.

Jorge Castillo: Long time regulars have been stunned of late by daily specials that have included a Mediterranean mahi-mahi sandwich, shrimp and scallop ajillo, and a sautéed seafood casserole.

Raúl Musibay: One new addition that really makes the pan con minuta taste great is a pineapple cole slaw. It’s just what this sandwich has been crying out for these many years.

Glenn Lindgren: For nearly forty years you had to eat at the counter or order "para llevar" as there were no tables or chairs in this no-frills eatery.

Jorge Castillo: A recent expansion has added seating for the weak-kneed or foot- weary tourist who on game nights find themselves elbow-to-elbow with Marlin's fans.

Glenn Lindgren: Blame Guy Fieri of the Food Network for the recent surge in popularity here, but also give him credit for the restaurant's expansion, cleaner rest rooms, and longer hours.

Raúl Musibay: You might also catch the resturant's Fish Box food truck, which seems to pop up all over town.

Glenn Lindgren: When we see it in our travels and we can’t make it to its "home planet," we love to get some Crab Croquettes, shrimp empanadas, and that signature fish sandwich from the brightly painted truck!

A plate of fried shrimp.
It's lunchtime at this Flagler Street mainstay and the place is packed. The local crowd seems to be equally divided between those seeking La Camaronera's freshly fried Pan Con Minuta (fish sandwich) and those opting for the signature fried shrimp. The fish sandwich is yellowtail, lightly breaded and fried. The prices here give fast food places a run for their money.
