Coral Gables Travel Guide

"The City Beautiful"

The Details

Coral Gable's famous Miracle Mile is a beautiful tree-lined boulevard filled with shops, restaurants, art galleries, and theatres. During the day, the Miracle Mile is a popular spot for shopping. In the evenings, the area morphs into a vibrant theater and restaurant scene that includes European-style outdoor cafes, always a great way to enjoy a warm Miami evening.

This swimming pool rose from the remnants of a rock quarry. Builders used natural coral limestone from the quarry to build the city's fine homes, leaving a large hole in the heart of Coral Gables. The Venetian Pool sits in an idyllic site surrounded by ferns, tropical flowers, vines, bamboo, and towering royal and coconut palms. The huge pool contains more than 820,000 gallons of water that flows from a natural spring so it is always cool, refreshing, and clean. During summer months, workers completely drain and refill the pool each night. The casino does not offer gambling, it is a casino in the original Italian sense, a small country house that includes the ticket office, changing rooms, and a small informal restaurant.

This beautiful 1940's art deco movie house has been transformed into a performing arts center with a 600-seat Mainstage auditorium, 300-seat Balcony Theatre, and 100-seat Black Box Theatre. The Actor's Playhouse has an agreement with the City of Coral Gables to stage Broadway caliber productions at the theater.

This gallery features contemporary Latin American and occasionally a European or American artist thrown in for good measure. Exhibits are eclectic and engaging and the gallery produces serigraph editions that are a more affordable way to collect fine art.
Cuban artist Leonor Murciano is a very romantic and sentimental realist painter. Her "Cuban Series" is especially evocative and captures the romance of Cuban culture combined with a longing for the past.

Cuban artists Mano and George Rodez own the beautiful miArte Gallery on Merrick. Exhibits include their own creations, plus displays of contemporary artists from South Florida and Latin America. Events include poetry readings, discussions, and other happenings. This is not your run-of-the-mill Gables gallery.

Humberto Benítez is one of the most popular artists in Miami painting vibrant works in the great Cuban tradition. Benitez has made great use of color in his exploration and interpretation of life, as seen through someone who developed his artistic eye in the Cuban countryside. Work includes small to large format pastel on paper, acrylic on canvas, oil on canvas, and sculpture.

Gallery Hours: Tuesday through Friday 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. | Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. | Also by appointment. Please call the gallery for exhibit schedule and special programming.

Cernuda Arte is the brainchild of Ramón Cernuda, a private art collector and researcher, who has been collecting Cuban art for nearly 40 years. Cernuda Arte is one of the top galleries in Miami primarily displaying Cuban masters—avant-garde artists from Cuba's golden age in the mid 20th century and innovative modern art from Cuba.
Gallery Hours: Monday through Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. | Saturday from noon to 6:30 p.m. | Open until 10:00 p.m. on the first Friday of each month.
