Glenn Lindgren: The Bird Road Art District, both formerly and currently home to many warehouses, started attracting artists in the 1980s. By 2000, the concentration of artistic pursuits led to the area's official designation by Dade County.

Jorge Castillo: For several years after its official christening, the District still lacked a decent area map or anything resembling an art walk.

Miami's Bird Road Art District

Glenn Lindgren: Back in the "old days" you had to look pretty hard to find galleries and artist studios, and you had to time your visit to the whim of the artists – most had open studio hours only sporadically.

Raúl Musibay: Recently, the District has been working to create a higher profile for the Miami artists who call this area home.

Jorge Castillo: The District now has an official Art Walk on the third Saturday of each month from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Glenn Lindgren: Come and enjoy an evening of great art. Start at any of the "stops" along the walk and enjoy the art at your leisure.

Jorge Castillo: There are typically beverages and small snacks available and a small "food court" that recently featured the "pizzazz pizza" stylings of Art's Healthy Slice Pizza.

Glenn Lindgren: A recent Bird Road Art District Walk featured a community created mural under the direction of the Daedalus Art Project Collective. A chance for everyday people to try their hand at creating art!

Raúl Musibay: Two Miami artists, Ismael Gomez Peralta and Miguel Leiva, are the creative force behind the Daedalus Art Project Collective.

Jorge Castillo: Another regular attraction in the District is a weekly open microphone night with music by the Matt Carroll Jazz Trio and DJ Vick.

Glenn Lindgren: Performances can include everything from music and poetry, to live art and discussion.
